    While as one would expect, books on Japanese castles are legion in Japan, there's been a dearth of works on the subject in English. Other than Schmorleitz's 'Castles In Japan' (which contains much outdated and erroneous information) and Mitchelhill's 'Castles of the Samurai: Power and Beauty' (which focuses on the value of the castles as an architectural and art form), only the odd tourist. I hereby present my Samurai Castle. I wanted to create a Japanese castle with authentic architectural elements, but in a playable scale. For this I could use the pieces that were created for the Ninja series in I started the first construction in February and after many tryouts and re-designs I got the set I present you now.

    History of Castles. Fortresses have been built in Japan since early times. A particular need for castles arose in the 15th century after the central government's authority had weakened and Japan had fallen into the chaotic era of warring states (sengoku jidai). During that era, Japan consisted of dozens of small independent states which fought each other and built small castles on top of. But there's much more to this story than just pretty scenery.
